Kilkenny Junk Kouture Fashion Show
Many Secondary School students from Kilkenny and Carlow have participated in Junk Kouture R&D workshops at the National Craft Gallery, we’ve invited past workshop participants to present their Junk Kouture garments for a special Culture Night Fashion Show!
Fashion Eye-Cons Showcase
Join Primary school pupils from Kilkenny in celebrating their creations in a very special showcase at the National Design & Craft Gallery. Their imaginative sculptural headpieces, developed in workshops with textile artist Carrie Lynam, will be on special show for Culture Night!
Ossory Youth Music
Celebrating Kilkennys wonderfully talented upcoming musicians, we set up stage for the bands and musicans of Ossory Youth for a special evening gig in the Castle Yard.
Shibori & Indigo Installation (8+)
Learn traditional Shibori Japanese dyeing technique with textile designer Hilary Bell. Fold, twist and bind the cloth and dye it in indigo. Shibori can make infinite patterns! Hang your dyed cloths to dry, creating an Indigo Installation for Culture Night!
Fashion Printed-Totes (8+)
A hands-on screen-printing workshop for adults and children with Caroline Ryan. Try out the technique of screen-printing to create your own fashion tote with repeat patterns inspired by the amazing Hi! Fashion exhibition.
Japanese Lantern Making (5+)
The Japanese Festival of Lanterns in September marks the end of summer and a bountiful harvest. Bring along your old soft-drinks cans to create beautiful lanterns to light up the night.
Felt Fidgets (5+)
Explore texture and colour combinations with felt-maker Marika Manning, making individual felt balls which can be strung together to make key-rings or necklaces!
Inspired by Aran Knitting and the Japanese tradition of Mizuhiki, knotted textiles, we create a large-scale Knitathon for Culture Night! Try Arm Knitting or our Giant Knitting-Nancy, knit on Giant Needles or bring your own knit and crochet patterns for a community knitathon!
