All ages are welcome to book our free school tours, from Primary to Third-Level; we tailor each gallery visit to suit your classes' age and ability. Craft & Design CPD Workshops
Pattern Drafting for Junk Kouture, Thurs 12th November 2015 6pm | €12
As part of our education programme National Craft Gallery are delighted to offer a suite of CPD workshops for post–primary teachers in the South-east. Form, shape and fit, work with Irish fashion designer and educator Joan Brennan to learn basic pattern drafting skills so you can get your Junk Kouture Project off to the right start.
Ceramic Skills, Mon 23rd November 2015 6pm | €12
Participants will be advised and have demonstrations on the following, selecting compatible clay bodies/ slips / glazes, applying slips / glazes, packing and firing your kiln, basic tool kit for hand building, DIY tools/ demonstration of use, clay storage and best practice (during construction). Participants will be instructed in basic slab construction techniques. Teachers will leave with possible scheme outline and a range of resources to implement that scheme.
Print Making, Tues 16th February 2016 6pm | €12
Taking inspiration from our Not Too Precious jewellery exhibition explore a variety of print techniques suitable for the classroom. Caroline Ryan of print collective PRINTBLOCK will lead a session on printed textiles. Teachers will leave with possible scheme outline and a range of resources to implement that scheme. Opportunity to silk -screen print on the evening.
The workshops cost of €12 each, this will cover materials.

Transition Year Schools Workshops: Exploring & Researching Creative Design Ideas for Junk Kouture

Irish Fashion designer and fashion lecturer Joan Brennan will explore how to approach a fashion project like a designer.
‘’Junk Kouture is a national competition for second level students which challenges teenagers to create high-end wearable fashion from everyday junk that would normally find its way into the bin. Junk Kouture aims to inspire and ignite passion in these teenagers while at the same time subtly educating them about the importance of recycling and reusing waste.’’
