DCCoI Jewellery & Goldsmithing Graduate Exhibition 12 July - 5 August

An exhibition of silversmithing and precious jewellery in gold, silver and gems by the 2019 graduates of the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland’s world-renowned Jewellery & Goldsmithing Course, based in Castle Yard, Kilkenny. The exhibition showcases the high level of craftsmanship and skills honed by the students during the intensive two-year programme.

The students work solely in precious metals with gemstones and have been encouraged to push boundaries in techniques and create innovative designs, which is evident in the almost 100 pieces on display. The exhibition showcases the technical ability and design aesthetics of each of the graduates including twelve intricate rings set with a single coloured gemstone. These rings are housed in their own bespoke silver box, each inspired by a decade from the past 120 years, illustrating the graduate's individual approach to a common brief.

For the second time the DCCoI have collaborated on a live project with the Kilkenny Design Group, tasking the students to design retail collections inspired by their signature neckpiece. Most of the creations featured will be available to purchase priced from €60, offering visitors to the gallery an opportunity to acquire work by Ireland’s emerging jewellery designers.

The exhibition will be launched on Friday 12 July.

DCCoI Jewellery Goldsmithing Course is a unique programme in jewellery education in Europe. The course covers design, quantity production techniques and manufacture. Specialist subjects such as engraving, enamelling, gemmology, stone setting and silversmithing are taught by experts from the jewellery industry in Ireland and abroad. The emphasis on design and craftsmanship enables students to successfully progress within the jewellery industry.
