Fresh Talent shines a light on the creative new wave of designers emerging since 2011 who work within and across disciplines. The exhibition includes a mix of award winning graduate projects from Ireland's major universities and from Irish students abroad and a selection of designers and practitioners who are establishing their businesses. The exhibition draws from a range of fields and incorporates a selection of design disciplines; Craft, Architecture, Set Design, Visual Communication, Product Design, Fashion and Design Engineering.

The Model, Sligo 30 October 2015 – 8 November 2015

One of the core exhibitions in the Irish Design 2015 touring programme, Fresh Talent highlights the calibre of Irish design across a broad range of disciplines. Coming to Sligo to celebrate our inaugural Design Week, Fresh Talent includes a mix of award winning graduate projects from Ireland’s major universities and from Irish students abroad, combined with the latest work from a selection of designers and practitioners who are at the early stages of establishing their businesses.

Curator’s Tour in Conversation 6 Feb, 6pm

Join us for an introduction to Fresh Talent with curator Angela O’Kelly, in conversation with some of the makers and designers. This will be followed by the Fresh Talent exhibition launch.

FAMILY DAY Pop Prints 14 Feb 10.30 am and 12 noon

Taking inspiration from the Fresh Talent exhibition, children will learn how to make multiple prints in this fun workshop with printmaker Mella Cahill. Click here for more details. ADULT WORKSHOP Fresh Prints 14 Feb, 2.30pm

Join Printmaker Mella Cahill for a hands-on printing workshop, Fresh Prints. A walk through of the ‘Fresh Talent’ exhibition to inspire, followed by the opportunity to design and produce your own linocut relief print. No previous experience required. ADULT WORKSHOP: Drawing as Research Fri 13 Feb, Wed 25 Feb & Wed 11 Mar -10.30am -12.30pm

Drawing as Research with Jewellery Designer Inga Reed. Drawing is a wonderful skill to have, not only in it’s own right, but because it can also be an invaluable design tool which allows the maker to explore a range of  possibilities in proportions, textures and colours. SCHOOLS WORKSHOPS: Screen Print Tues 3 & Wed 4 & Thur 5 & Fri 6 March 10am OR 1.30pm

Second Level students are invited to National Craft Gallery to learn how to Screen Print on fabric with textile artist and printer Caroline Ryan. Workshop duration 2hours and includes an introduction to the FRESH TALENT exhibition, suitable for 4th, 5th & 6th year students. LATE DATE: Meet the Makers Thurs 26 Feb, 6.30pm

Fresh Approaches to Jewellery with Arturo Borrego. Spend an evening at the National Craft Gallery and enjoy a presentation by jewellery designer Arturo Borrego where he will discuss his work, design process and approach to alternative materials in the making of his collection. Arturo will showcase his work on the night and take part in a Q&A session. Join us for a glass of wine and hear the story of one of our Fresh Talent makers. INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY WORKSHOP Object: Portrait, Assemblage, Collage, Juxtaposition Sun 8 March, 12noon -2pm & 3pm -5pm

Spend an afternoon at National Craft Gallery and enjoy a presentation by Award winning designer Orla Reynolds where she will discuss her work as a Set Designer and the journey she has taken as a Furniture Designer. From the creation of the collection ‘As if from nowhere…’ to establishing a furniture design company. Followed by a Q&A
