CULTURE NIGHT: Festival of Collaborative Creativity

5pm – 8.30pm, Friday 20th September 2019
National Design & Craft Gallery, Castle Yard, Kilkenny

For this year's Culture Night join us for a Festival of Collaborative Creativity and embrace the joy of being creative and working in the moment! On Friday 20 September, the Castle Yard will be transformed for the night with music and creativity and will be a truly inviting and festive environment for all ages. Take part in our free drop-in workshops, have fun in the family-friendly creative play area and enjoy gallery mini-tours. Adults can enjoy a glass of wine and everyone can engage in the fantastic range of activities on offer, including drumming, drawing, jewellery making, printing and textiles.

Our Culture Night events, workshops and installation are inspired by our thought-provoking exhibition Crowded Thresholds at the National Design & Craft Gallery which can be viewed on the night. Crowded Thresholds showcases thought-provoking pieces across different disciplines in applied art, design and visual art, and explores ‘emotional geography’, generating a fascinating visual interplay between authentic storytelling and artistic expression. Presented with a sense of playfulness and infectious imagination, this intriguing group exhibition displays objects by established and emerging practitioners – all of whom are based in Ireland or linked to this country – that are connected by a desire to make the invisible visible and have a fundamental interest in traditional processes and materials.
