Heritage Week Webinar: Design Education Kilkenny 1960’s – 1980’s

The National Design & Craft Gallery invite you learn about the heritage of design education in Kilkenny. Our panel of speakers will reflect on their immersive educational experience in the Butler House Scholarship programme & at the Kilkenny Design Workshops (KDW). Education in a broad selection of design disciplines, from craft to visual communications and industrial design will be discussed. Heritage Week Webinar: Irish Botanical Mythology

In this webinar, award winning craftsperson and member of the Glass Society of Ireland Emma Bourke, will reflect on why Irish Botanical Mythology inspires her work. Niall MacCoitir, author of the Myths, Legends & Folklore series will share his expertise on botanical mythology. Mary Pyke, Head Gardner at Rothe House Kilkenny, will also join us to discuss the history & restoration of Rothe House Urban garden, referencing 17 century Archaeological excavation finds. Audience members will gain an enjoyable insight into the cultural aspects of Irelands flora, as seen through the eyes of craftsperson, author and gardener. continue reading

Join the National Design & Craft Gallery (NDCG) with visual artist Caroline Schofield and special guests, for an informal panel discussion focusing on heritage crafts. This webinar will highlight a selection of wonderful stories gathered as part of the NDCG’s Narrative Tools Project. Special guests will also share expert knowledge of heritage craft skills & collections.
